Nnedi Okorafor Pens New Comicbook on Black Panther's Sister Shuri

Award-winning novelist Nnedi Okorafor was tapped to author a new spinoff from the Black Panther universe.

Black Panther's right hand and younger sister Shuri is receiving her very own comic book series. Spewing #BlackGirlMagic throughout the entire movie, Shuri was a true standout in the film as she developed and solved many technical problems for her superhero brother in an era that desperately needs more female minds in the STEM world.

A first-generation Nigerian, Nnedi Okorafor is no stranger to telling these types of stories with an African twist. Her work, rooted in sci-fi, fantasy, and magic, consistently touches on African culture and realism with super creative twists.

Okorafor collaborated with Aaron Covington for Marvel's  "Black Panther: Long Live the King" comic series just last month, so it's only fitting she write his sister's  comic tale.

Below is Nnedi's TED Talk on sharing science fiction stories of Africa and what it means for the continent.
